SPEAK UP FOR A CHILD
CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates) are community volunteers who are
trained to act as advocates for abused and / or neglected children that have
been brought into the protective custody f the State of Texas (foster care).
CASA volunteer advocates are sworn in by the District Judge and take an oath
to keep the best interests of the child or children they serve as their focus and
to maintain confidentiality.

CASA serves children who have been abused and / or neglected.  These
children may have been abandoned, been born exposed to illegal drugs before
birth, some have been exposed to illegal drugs after birth by the choices of
their caretakers, and some suffer from "Shaken Baby Syndrome" or simply a
broken heart.

CASA volunteers are independent fact finders who review case information
from many sources: speak with the child's parents, teachers, family members,
neighbors and most importantly, the child.  They work with the attorneys, social
workers and child protective services.  CASA volunteers provide information to
these professionals, and especially the Judge so that an informed decision is
made that takes into account the child's best interests.

"I had no hero except my CASA worker.  She was there.  Not my mom, not my dad, and
I guess Superman just forgot to show up.  I had no Superman, but I did, and still do
have a Wonder Woman."    -  Former CASA Youth
