Dear Prospective CASA Volunteer:
Thank you for your interest in serving as a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem for the children
assigned to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of North Texas. We are
appreciative of anyone interested in volunteering their time for our agency, whether as
a CASA volunteer, board member or volunteering in administrative or fundraising efforts.
Court Appointed Special Advocates is a 501c3 non-profit agency whose mission is to
provide volunteer Guardian Ad Litem advocates for abused and/or neglected children
who are a part of the foster care system. CASA volunteers and staff participate in a 30
hour training course that equips them to serve as Guardians Ad Litem for the children.
Once sworn in and assigned by the court to a particular case, CASA volunteers
investigate the case, monitor how the parents and children are doing and report their
findings back to the district court in the form of a written report. The Court then takes
the information from the CASA volunteer, whose only interest in the case is what is best
for the child, into consideration as decisions are made that affect the children’s future.
All staff and volunteers with CASA (whether Board member, administrative volunteer or
volunteers working with children) are required to have their background checked.
These checks include criminal history checks with the Department of Public Safety and
a form that will be sent in to Child Protective Services.
If you wish to become a CASA volunteer, please download and fill out the
application and other forms listed below and return them to the CASA office at
309 S. Commerce, P.O. Box 615 Gainesville, Texas 76241.
Again, thank you for your interest in working with CASA of North Texas. We hope to
hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Angela Sharp
Volunteer Coordinator
